BJD--L.A. Dolpa Photos--Customization Contest

CUSTOMIZATION CONTEST--Movie/Hollywood theme.

This is basically a costume contest for the owner-dolls... They are dressed up in costumes from a movie/film (for this contest) and one winner is chosen by popular vote, the others are chosen by various judges for various reasons. We don't actually know the categories beforehand. And there are no rules, really, you can enter what you want, although they asked that we limit our display to around 18"x18"x36" due to space considerations--I think...

There were fewer entrants than expected, but they were nicely done, I thought! And amazingly--not any multiples for one film or character!

I chose the film "Stardust" because it was fantasy and fairly recent, and I already had a blue Victorian gown that was similar to that in the film... I had to alter it slightly to make it more like the film--mostly putting a certain kind of sleeve on it. And I put together the diamond necklace she's wearing, also from the film. I just had to find a blond wig for my Cyndy2 and she was good. For my Shiro, the outfit was more problematic... I can't really tailor a jacket, so I commissioned [info]wickedstitchery to make the frock coat, waist-coat and trousers from the film. Wig was ordered from Leeke--and it arrived just in time. Boots and shirt are from Dollheart.--

My horrible memory... I think this Louis XIV outfit is by [info]crybabymommie--

"A Fistful of Dollars" Cool Clint!--

Not sure about the awards or categories... I know there was a best SF for the "V" and "Dune" may have been the President's award? One was the Popular Choice--"Godzilla"... I think Valico or one of the faceup artists gave one of the awards... Anyway--nice prizes! And all the entrants did a great job...

Thanks! ^___^

"Stardust" was fun to do, since that frock coat was pretty ordinary--just a little distinctive because of the color combination... And I just loved the blue dress I had already... I love Victorian dresses!

The one in the Gorgous dress, Maggie (Liz Tayler) from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Dune was the President's award. Godlizlita did get the popular vote, and nice photo of my doll (I didn't have time to do more than one and didn't know you could have props and sets, I don't remember people having that from Halloween :( At least I got some more experience from sewing the outfit.

Your dolls are lovely, the second shot is really nice

OH!!! "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"!!! The craftsmanship on that dress was marvelous.

I didn't write down the awards and have a horrible memory, so I wasn't sure about the President's Award... although I was pretty sure it was DUNE. (The leds in the eyes was just genius--but the dress was quite nice on its own, although black on black is hard to see, detail-wise.)

Was yours the Van Helsing??? I've got a horrible memory...!!! :(

Few people had props for the Halloween contest. There was no room for it, for one thing. I actually had a pirate flag as a prop, for my guy, though. And there was that entry from Japanese history/legend that was a complete presentation with props and makeup and all... That stuck in my mind! When Volks posted the size limitations I was guessing that they were trying to make sure no one went over-board with the extra stuff, so SOME props and such was in my mind. I didn't have props, perse. I was going to just put a little photo of the outfits and the film name by my dolls, but then they posted the size limitations and I thought maybe I should try for a little backdrop-and-title-and-photo thingie!

Mine was Momoko from Kamikaze Girls. I had thought of doing a sign of sorts, but didn't know if that was okay. I guess if I ever do it again I will have to think about it.

It was kinda hard to hear the announcements for the customization awards from where I was sitting. And I thought they had more at Halloween. Kinda wish they would have given out ribbons or something for participating but oh well. It was a very nice evening overall. Sounds like you had fun!

I actually didn't care that much for the film!!! O___o

It was an OK film... some fun stuff in it. Watchable... VERY dark and quirky. I was mostly annoyed at the trope of young hero falling for beautiful girl who is all wrong for him and ignoring girl right in front of him. It's just a personal thing!

The Dune entry was great! I hadn't thought of Dune--but that film was actually gorgeous, design-wise.

The movie theme was just wonderful--room for lots of variety and lots of fun. I kinda hope they pick the same one for the next Dolpa, since people can really do what they like...

I was very impressed with the costumes. People had some lovely entries... And that Godzilla (was it called Loli-zilla? someone referred to it by a cute name like that!), was very creative! The Ringu one had me laughing, too.
