BJD--L.A. Dolpa Photos--Sunday Marketplace, etc.
In the craziness running up to the holiday season, I forgot to post the last bit on the Dolpa--Sunday--with the Marketplace. It's just a brief bit, and if you've checked out my Photobucket dump, nothing new!
I'm sure people started lining up early for the Marketplace... I heard around 6am or earlier. I arrived right before the doors would open about 9am and fortunately found
wolfmeister and the rest of the group towards the end of the line that wound back and forth in the basement rooms. People were very orderly and in a good mood, it seemed. I wasn't in a hurry to get in because I was not planning on any major purchases (and was actually hoping I'd see very little I wanted, a lost cause, of course!).
I'd left my dolls in my car, intent on shopping (or in failing to not shop--I just had my car die, after all, but oh, well!). I forgot I had my camera, so I didn't get photos of the line or the Volks part of the store, sadly. People posted some nice photos on DoA, of course. Anyway--we all got in the line for the Volks Store... People who wanted to shop in the Marketplace with various vendor got right in when the doors opened. We had to wait-wait-wait, since they'd only let in new people to the roped off area when other people left.
We first walked by the display of the dolls available--so pretty! And if we wanted to buy any that were still available (I think the chibis sold out before we got there--but there were still Rubys and Garnets available and some outfits), we could take a paper ticket to carry about before heading to the cash registers.
When someone left the shopping area the next person on line was given their shopping basket and could enter. On tables lined up along the walls were mostly items regularly available in the Volks Store: eyes, customizing supplies, wigs, etc. On the center table were the items from the Japanese Vendors who weren't personally in attendance. The knowing group I was with headed straight theres. Much of the clothing items were gone already. I mostly hovered over the Volks kimono outfits. They were being quickly snatched up, too, but mostly by those who were thinking /deciding... every now and then a package with an outfit would be thrown back on the table by someone who had made their decision. It was still getting to be slim pickings by that time, however. I still couldn't manage to resist buying a SD-13 kimono set.
There were also a lot of the limited wigs still available, which made some people happy. Volks wigs are lovely--but a tad too pricey for me!
I stood on line at the registers over by the far wall--but they were having problems with the running the credit cards (probably too much volume). The lines of people had to wait-wait-wait again while the problems were gradually fixed. I didn't want to pay cash since I'd need it in the Marketplace--so I waited.
Finally--out! And more shopping! The Marketplace was set up to the left of the main doors on an long island of tables.
Going along the wall to the left... There was Dollovely (Pam's) booth, and
clochetterd's booth (they were sharing a double-long spot, I think). I bought two outfits for my Bambicronys there.
They had a LOT of nice stock. There was a lovely SD-girl-sized dress, but the colors I liked were sold out already. Hopefully Pam will make more!
Coming up here is Sunara's booth, with
doll_paparazzi and
wolfemeister sitting to the right of Sunara. She had made some leather scabbards and belts for SD-sized swords and was selling them as sets, so I had to have one. I also bought a pair of silver sandals there--
I loved kellyhime's Regency Gowns, but had to give them a pass for now... But someday I will have one!!!--
The same for AppleAvenue's fabulous coats!!! Agggh! So tempting! I adore that black one on the top, and she had some lovely "geisha" influenced ones that I've been lusting after forever... *sigh* Someday...!--

I also bought a garnet ring for my big kids from OrangeBabyDolly and some pale green eyes from Ginarollo... and a Bambi-sized Santa Hat for Christmas. And I bought one of AsnButterfly's wonderful lace cheung-sams, another thing I'd always wanted (they packed it up in a nice little shopping bag!). Here are some of my spoils--
In order to avoid further temptation to spend I retreated to the seating-socializing area between the Marketplace and the far part of the room where the workshops were held. There were chairs and some tables with displays--several of which were there to take some souvenir photos of your dolls. Here's Tamlin/Tamishirou sitting in front of one of the displays--
The first workshop sessions were starting and the Free Admission to the Marketplace was also staring. I sat down with
hotmarscube and others... he was watching
winter_elf's Jun while she was in the Makeup Workshop... and other dolls and people milled about, his girl, Susan's girl and Annette's girl--
And he posed Tamlin with them. This works. He's really quite a romantic soul!--

We had to watch if people walked by and shook the table--he was a bit unstable!--
I love the poses, though! Lots of fun--
Here's his gorgeous girl, also a Volks One-Off--
And Susan's girl--I love the highlights in this wig!
We could look over and see friends taking the Makeup Workshop class--
More romantic poses--
We sat about until the first class was over and they all got ready to drive back down to San Diego--and I had to run to sign in for my 5:30 class.
I reported on the Class on DoA with links in an earlier post here.

I had a fantastic time. I hope everyone who want to experience one of these events is able to get to one someday! ^___^
